From a very young age, my mom was a pastry chef, or as we say in Cuba, a ‘dulcera.’ I would occasionally help her, but the truth is that I wasn’t very interested in the subject. I never learned any recipes; I would just wash her trays and that was it.

However, when we moved to the United States in 2014, we wanted to celebrate the birthday of our eldest son, Henry, so we bought a cake to celebrate. But I didn’t like the taste of that cake at all. That’s when I told myself, ‘I need my mom’s recipe; I need to bake a cake because I can’t eat the one we bought.’

So, I started making my first cakes little by little, and my friends would give me their opinions. My mom sent me the recipe for the cake she used to make, which I made my own over time, adding my secret ingredients (laughs), putting a lot of love and effort into it. I made one cake, and then another, and I even tried making flans and countless desserts every time there was an occasion.

Until one day it was at a friend’s wedding. I proposed to handle the entire dessert buffet, and she would only pay for the materials. That day G&G Bakery was born.

I’m deeply grateful to that friend who trusted me and let me be part of her wedding, preparing all the sweets. From there, I told myself, ‘I love baking, and I want to make a living from it in the future.’ Then came other weddings, quinceañera parties, and many more events. My husband always helped me set up the tables and with everything else.

At that time, baking was like a hobby, and I struggled to understand how to set prices. Today, our bakery is a reality thanks to divine providence. With faith in our work and God’s guidance, we know that we will continue to thrive and achieve great goals in this business we have created.”
